Team India on Saturday announced the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the ODI series against England, with skipper Rohit Sharma and Selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar addressing a press conference. The biggest talking point was Shubman Gill being named the vice-captain of the side. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah was picked, with Agarkar saying more clarity on his fitness will be given in February.

KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant were preferred as wicketkeepers over Sanju Samson in the 15-member squad, while Mohammed Siraj is another big name who was not included in the squad. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami were also included in the squad, confirming their successful recovery from injury. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was not present at the press conference, having given his opinion in discussions with Rohit and the selectors on Friday evening.

Despite concerns over his fitness, India's bowling backbone Jasprit Bumrah was on Saturday (January 18, 2025) named in the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy starting February 19. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included in the ODI squad for the first time, while Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav, who are returning bowlers after injury, have also been selected in the Rohit Sharma-led squad.
